Central to midtown Toronto, Mount Pleasant East comprises the Davisville Village neighbourhood and the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, from which the community gets its name. Mount Pleasant East is very popular among many young professionals and families, given its approximate to downtown Toronto and easy access to a range of public transit options.

Community Overview

The boundary of Mount Pleasant East runs from Mount Pleasant Road on the west to Blythewood Road on the North, Bayview Avenue on the east, and Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the south. Mount Pleasant East is a peaceful community with high-rise condos and detached homes mixed with green space and retail areas.

1. Housing:

Residential Real estate at Mount Pleasant east comprises primarily detached and semi-detached houses and condo apartments. Most detached homes have a smaller frontage of about 25 feet and were built between 1910 and 1940. The typical architecture includes Victorian, Georgian, and Tudor-style homes. A growing number of old houses have been torn down and transformed into modern houses in recent years. Many high-rises and middle-rise condo buildings and rental apartments are along Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Mount Pleasant East Toronto sold 23 detached houses on average of $2,145,005; 15 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,704,453; 10 condos on average of $854,050.

2. Demographic:

British Isles origins, English, Irish, Scottish, Canadian, and Germany are top ethnic origins. The top birthplaces of all immigrants are the UK, USA, Philippines, European and China. Also, a higher proportion of the residents have a bachelor's degree and above.

3. Transportation:

Roughly 37% of residents travel by public transit. Numerous buses run through the community and have bus stops along Mount Pleasant Road, Bayview Avenue, Eglinton Avenue, and Davisville Avenue. Furthermore, Eglinton Crosstown LRT has two stations on Eglinton Avenue, curtailing the commute duration to other parts of the city. For Car commuters, driving to downtown Toronto will take less than 15 minutes via Mt Pleasant Avenue.

4. Recreation:

Sherwood Park is north of the community bordering Mount Pleasant Hope Catholic Cemetery. It has a dog off-leash area, a picnic site and a 4.7km walking trail. Starting from Allen Road and terminating on Mount Pleasant Road, The Belt Line trail, passing through Mt Pleasant Cemetery at the southern border of the community, is an 8.9km hiking path for residents.

5. Shopping:

The most significant commercial real estate is along major arterial roads throughout the community, including Yonge Street, Mount Pleasant Avenue East, and Bayview Avenue. Residents can find Metro supermarket, Whole Foods Market, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollarama, and many large retail stores. To search for a unique experience and special products, consumers may try distinctive restaurants, antique shops, and speciality stores along Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant Road.

6. Schools:

Three public elementary schools serve elementary students. The neighbourhood north of the community belongs to the school zone of Blythwood Junior Public School. Blythwood Junior Public School ranks very high academically and is a top-rated school for families with young children. Eglinton Junior Public School admits students south of Sherwood Avenue but north of Eglinton Avenue. Maurice Cody Junior Public School zone accepts students from the south of Eglinton Avenue.

Middle school students from most parts of the community go to Hodgson Middle School. Glenview Senior Public School takes a small number of students from grades 7 to 8 in the northern part of the community.

North Toronto Collegiate Institute and North Toronto Collegiate Institute are two high schools that accept students from Mount Pleasant east community. North Toronto CI is an excellent school that ranks around 42 over 739 high schools in Ontario.

Mount Pleasant East is close to downtown Toronto and has direct access to convenient public transit. Many new condo apartments offer young professionals an excellent alternative to living outside the downtown core but enjoying an urban lifestyle.
